RRRz — the dream machine

A product from zero, solo, with AI lanes

Goal

Ship a product with no team and no budget line: a dream machine bought once, with two states of mind, focus by day and recovery by night.

Problem

Sleep and focus apps sell subscriptions to noise and watch the person to do it.

The opening: one instrument that reads the hour and the sky, so the first press is already the right night — and a card in the morning that says what the machine did, never who you are.

Customer Promise

"One machine, two states of mind: focus to prepare for the work, recover to return to rest. It knows the hour without asking, gives the night back in the morning, and never says a word about you."

Constraints

Refusals, as product: no account, no subscription, no ads, no telemetry.
Platform: a web page cannot play sound behind an iOS lock. That one thing had to be native.
Budget: a monthly ceiling on build minutes, set by hand.
Voice: nothing explains itself.

Options Considered

Option A: the web page alone. Silent the moment the phone locks.
Option B: a native shell around the live page, with a native engine behind the lock.
Option C: a full native rewrite. Two products, drifting apart.

Decision

Option B. The page is the fascia; the native engine plays behind the lock. A conformance check on every push holds the engine to the page’s own score, sample for sample — two engines, one machine.

Made by Taking Away

Version one cleared review on 18 September 2026. Most of the work since has been cutting.

Cut from the panel: the rows PICK, HAND, ROOM, BREATH and PLACE, and the keys SCREEN ON, LISTEN and BREATHE. LISTEN was the microphone; the machine no longer listens.
Cut from the rest: the lamp key and EARS; ROOM and UNREAD from the plate; INVITE from the night; the TURN key from the card; SAMPLE, KEEP and EXPORT from PLAY before it settled; and on the web, the panel itself.
Added, once: PLAY. The threads on the glass are strings. A strum lights LOOP, a loop pulses the knob, the night carries the loop and answers it, and the card says the loop it carried.

Version one's panel open over the cloth: three dials, DREAM STEADY, LENGTH 1 HR 00 and VOICE AUTO, a START key, then six rows, PICK, HAND, ROOM, LIGHT, BREATH and PLACE, three keys, SCREEN ON, LISTEN and BREATHE, and a PANEL key at the foot. — Version one, 18 September, at 2 pm: six rows and three keys under the dials.

Today's panel open over the cloth at the same hour: the same three dials, DREAM TURN, LENGTH 10 MIN and VOICE MACHINE'S, the START key, one row reading LIGHT BLUE THE CLOCK'S, and the PANEL key at the foot. — Today, same hour: one row.

Metrics

Done, in writing: a live store link; proceeds past the developer program’s fee; a night shared by someone who is not the founder.
Guardrails, on every push: more than a hundred and seventy gates on the machine; a conformance check on every native change; a brand gate on every ink.
Strategic: a serial grammar — every night comes back as a card, and the card’s number plays the night again.

Risks & Mitigations

Two clocks behind a lock → it happened: a misread clock ended a block a second in, and sound on a real phone caught it. Now two clocks must agree before anything ends, and a gate holds that.
Queues nobody controls → nothing waits on them.
A microphone in a bedroom → cut. The machine no longer listens; the hour and the sun are enough.
Runaway build spend → a ceiling, a stop switch, a build per batch.

What Changed

Subtraction as the method: a control stays only if nothing else on the face can say it.
A method: crucible, ruling, build, gate — each in a registry a reader can audit.
One person running four lanes, each with a written charter.
A machine that decides: the hour and the sky pick the night, and a hand still overrules it.

Where It Stands

The web instrument is live at rrjjbb.com, free and limited. Version 1.0.3, which brought PLAY, cleared review on 6 October 2026 and the app is on the store; 1.0.4, which brings the iPad, is in testing. The app runs the live web, so the trunk is production.
